Today, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) spent the day in southwest Oklahoma hosting “Community Conversations” with community leaders, constituents, law enforcement, state officials, and business owners in Cheyenne, Elk City, Mangum, and Hollis as part of a busy in-state work period.
“After a very busy July, it’s great to be with southwest Oklahomans to hear their needs and discuss how I’m fighting for them in Washington,” said Sen. Mullin. ”I’m thankful for the warm welcomes at every stop and am appreciative of those who came prepared with hard questions, personal stories, and suggestions for how I can better serve them.”
Senator Mullin began the day in Cheyenne where he met with constituents, including Cheyenne City Manager Nehemiah Yager, and local community leaders. The senator discussed Washington’s terrible spending habits, the need for fiscal responsibility among elected officials, burdensome taxes, his opposition to Green New Deal policies, and his fight for a fair Farm Bill. In addition, Senator Mullin took questions regarding the Biden-Harris border crisis, and assured attendees of he and his GOP conference colleagues’ efforts to secure the southern border.
Following the visit, Senator Mullin stopped in Elk City for a community leaders luncheon including City Manager Tom Ivester and Elk City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Susie Cupp. Speaking to a large crowd, the senator talked through the ongoing appropriations negotiations, and took questions pertaining to upcoming legislation, government overreach, and why he ran for office.
Additionally, Senator Mullin visited Mangum to talk with business leaders, Sovereign Bank CEO Brian Crane, and Jed Winters, Owner of Wintree Homes, LLC & Mangum Brick Company, to give updates of his work on Capitol Hill. The senator explained how federal overregulation of his businesses sparked his involvement in politics, and continues to motivate his efforts to get the government off the backs of Oklahomans. The event ended with the senator taking questions from the audience that covered his seat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, and stopping corruption at the federal level.
Senator Mullin concluded the afternoon in Hollis where he gave a crash course on the legislative process. He met with City Manager Mark Whisenant, Harmon County Forward Executive Director Adam Bromlow, city business leaders, and constituents, and unpacked how his efforts in the U.S. Senate translates to wins for Oklahoma. In addition to these topics, the senator listened to the audience’s concerns regarding the border, crop insurance, and the Biden-Harris administration’s overreach.
